It is almost time for that fabulous time where it is perfectly ok to eat and drink ALL DAY LONG!
I can’t wait, and I’ve already started planning the wines for the day. Our meal is going to be a little different this year: Shabu-shabu! We love it and figure the kids will have fun cooking their own meat and vegetables. Of course, they also wanted some of their favorites, so we are also having mashed potatoes, mac ‘n cheese, and a potato chip buffet????
There really aren’t any “standard” pairings for this meal… but my favorites will do just fine: Franciacorta, Halkia Agiorgitiko, and undoubtedly something from Mersel Wine.
What about you? Ready to move beyond Bojo for the Thanksgiving table? That is always a solid choice – especially for a traditional turkey. But, there is a whole world of flavors on peoples’ tables, and a whole world of wine from which to choose!
You may have read the article in Punch Drink, suggesting that the best Thanksgiving wine is, well, big; that’s right, as in a1.5L magnum! Luckily for you, Rex at the Royal has several great magnum options in its bottle shop – just waiting for your family or friendsgiving. Magnums are a great way to splurge on a special bottle for the WHOLE table, and the Nicolas Gonin “Balmes Dauphinoises” Altesse is a fabulous option.
Or, Jet Wine Bar has a whole menu of suggestions for whatever you are eating. Turkey and stuffing? Chataeu Ksara’s l’Observatoire from Lebanon will be perfect! Lamb? Try Casa Jipi Nebbiolo from Mexico.
